7 Days in Aruba? Here’s Everything You Can Do in Just One Week

Looking to flee the cold weather and head to a warmer climate for a luxury break? Aruba awaits.

With miles of white-sand beaches, year-round high temperatures, a plethora of luxury accommodation, and even the ability to pay in US dollars across the island, it's no wonder so many visitors flock to this Southern Caribbean island in droves.

If you too have been tempted to Aruba's white sandy shores but aren't sure how to spend your week-long vacation, we've got you covered. Here's a 7-day itinerary so you can make the most of your time in this Caribbean gem.

The best part? Thanks to Aruba's compact size, you can see most of Aruba's most exciting sights in just one trip. Not that you'll be able to resist returning, of course!

Top tip: We'd recommend hiring a car around the island so you can see as much of it as possible. With so much to do and explore, giving yourself the freedom to get around is a no-brainer.

Day 1: Beach Day

When you arrive in Aruba, you'll probably want to spend the first day of your holiday relaxing rather than doing anything too strenuous. Here's the good news. Aruba is the perfect spot to relax, with miles of glorious beaches where you can set up your beach rug, lie back, and enjoy the view.

Eagle Beach is arguably the island's most famous, with turquoise water and Aruba's iconic Divi Divi tree. If you want to be part of the action, head to Palm Beach, where you'll find restaurants, bars, and nightclubs overlooking the shoreline.

For dinner by Eagle Beach, check out restaurants Asi es mi Peru or Tulip Restaurant.

Day 2: Take a Tour Through Arikok National Park

If you're looking to take a break from sandy beaches for something a little more adventurous, take a tour through the rugged terrain of Arikok National Park. You can either book a tour with an official company or hire your own car - either way, you'll get to experience the outstanding beauty this park has to offer.

The park's caves provide visitors with an insight into how Aruba's early inhabitants lived, while the park's unspoiled beach, Dos Playas, is home to nesting turtles throughout some parts of the year. It's a popular surfing spot, but not safe for those looking to swim or body board.

If you decide to visit Dos Playas, you can take a quick trip to Boca Prins - dunes created by the trade winds. Also, in Arikok National Park, you can take the plunge into a breathtaking natural pool that's easily accessed with a car or as part of a tour.

Day 3: Visit Oranjestad and Take a Submarine Tour

Oranjestad is Aruba's compact capital, and it's well worth a visit. Stroll around the capital's many luxury eateries and grab a tipple in one of its cocktail bars while you cool off from the island's warm sunshine.

From Oranjestad, you can take a submarine tour, during which you'll even be able to see a World War II shipwreck. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience that'll make your Aruba trip one you won't forget.

Day 4: Windsurf at Hadicurari Beach

If you're a windsurfing or kitesurfing fan, you'll feel right at home at the island's Hadicurari beach. Originally known for its stretch of iconic fishing huts, this beach between Palm Beach and Malmok Beach is not only a beautiful spot to relax but also home to some of windsurfing's best athletes and competitions.

Never windsurfed before but fancy giving it a go? Many companies offer beginner surfing classes here, while the more experienced among you can rent your own gear and go it alone.

If water sports aren't your thing, there's always the option to simply sit back, relax, and take in the views.

Day 5: Look for Flamingos on De Palm Island

For a day of fun in the sun while you spot local wildlife, take a quick boat ride to the nearby De Palm Island. With a dock located just 10 minutes from Oranjestad, this easily-accessible island is home to water sports, beachfront cabanas, and (most importantly) flamingos!

Whether you're looking for an action-packed day of water sports and scuba diving or the opportunity to sit back and sunbathe with a good book, you'll find something for every beach-goer on De Palm Island.

Day 6: Walk the Colorful Streets of San Nicolas and Visit Baby Beach

Located twelve miles southeast of Oranjestad, San Nicolas, also known as Sunrise City, is a vibrant, colorful coastal town that's worth visiting. Here you'll find walls with colorful art murals, independent shops, bars, and restaurants serving up tasty local cuisine, as well as points of historical and architectural interest.

If you're looking for a more authentic Caribbean experience away from Oranjestad's glitz and glamor, you'll find it here. While you're in San Nicolas, take a visit to the city's most famous bar, Charlie's Bar, which has been famous since the 1940s and has been a staple destination for scuba divers ever since.

Beach bums can enjoy San Nicolas's Baby Beach, while history buffs will be keen to pay a visit to the nearby abandoned residential areas in The Colony.

Day 7: Snorkeling Excursion and Sunset Cruise

One of the main draws to a holiday in Aruba is the clear blue seas and abundant nature and wildlife. Make the most of this proximity to sparkling waters by booking a daylight snorkeling excursion, followed by a sunset cruise.

Many of the island's boat tours include luxury touches such as small bites, a bottle of bubbly, or even an open bar. Shop around to see which one best suits your needs.

A Stunning Aruba Adventure: Top Tips for an Unforgettable Trip

As with every trip, there’s always lots to think about and wrap your head around. To make your adventure a little easier and to make sure it all runs smoothly, here are some top tips to really make the most of your visit to Aruba.

  1. Plan ahead: A little research goes a long way. Make a list of must-see attractions, and book popular tours and activities in advance to avoid disappointment. See what’s open and make sure you’re listing what you want. Don’t be super-rigid, but have some sense of direction so you have something to look forward to!

  2. Pack smart: Bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from Aruba's sunny weather. Don't forget your swimsuit and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated!

  3. Embrace the local culture: Immerse yourself in Aruba's vibrant culture by sampling local cuisine, attending events, and learning a few words in Papiamento, the island's native language. It’s a lot of fun, and an experience within itself!

  4. Get off the beaten path: While Aruba's beaches are a must-see, venture beyond the tourist hotspots to discover hidden gems and breathtaking landscapes. Trust us, you won’t have to look far to be completely blown away!

  5. Stay safe: As with traveling to any destination, always follow local guidelines and safety measures. Keep an eye on your belongings, and avoid venturing into unfamiliar areas alone at night. Aruba is generally considered safe, but just be smart.

  6. Make connections: Chat with locals and fellow travelers to get insider tips on the best places to eat, drink, and explore. Immersing yourself in the local culture is one of the best ways to really enjoy what Aruba has to offer.

  7. Relax and have fun: Remember that you're on vacation! Leave room for spontaneity, and don't stress about seeing everything. Enjoy your time in Aruba, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
